Yale Professor and Acclaimed Poet
J.D. McClatchy (Ph.D. '74) on "The Poet as Librettist", Tues Nov
3rd, 7-8:30 pm, at Black Box Theatre, 113-A 2nd Avenue,
NYC. $15 cost. Pre-registration required.
Spend
a pleasant evening with Yale Professor J.D. McClatchy (Ph.D. '74), who
is also an acclaimed poet and librettist, President of the American
Academy of Arts and Letters, and Editor of The Yale Review .
McClatchy has also edited a volume of poetry entitied Love Speaks Its Name: Gay and Lesbian Love
Poems, as well as the selected poems of gay poet James Merrill.
McClatchy's talk, "The Poet as Librettist," will address the literary
and practical business of putting an opera together in the midst of
clashing personalities,
slashed budgets, crazy directors and temperamental singers.
A forty-five minute talk will be followed by a fifteen minute question
and answer session followed by a thirty minute informal reception.
All are welcome. Pre-registration is required. A voluntary
contribution of $15 (tax-deductible) is requested to cover the costs of
the event and
facilitate YAAMNY's educational programming.
