The Americas have made strides in LGBTQ rights - a taboo until recently. Buenos Aires has become one of the world's most popular gay destinations, while Brazil broadcast its first-ever gay male kiss in a prime-time series earlier this year. In the past decade, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Uruguay passed national same-sex marriage legislation.

As the region moves toward more equality, much work remains to be done in regards to LGBTQ rights in the workplace. Most countries in t he region lack legislation preventing LGBTQ workers from discrimination, as do most U.S. states. As a result, employees can be fired based on their sexual identities. Four in 10 gays in the United States have faced harassment or other forms of discrimination in their workplace. In Mexico and Colombia, openly serving in the military is still a challenge.

Join the YPA and the Princeton University's Bisexual, Transgendered, Gay, and Lesbian Alumni Association (FFR/Princeton BTGALA) for a panel discussion on LGBTQ rights in the workplace. Panelists will discuss the challenges in advancing LGBTQ rights in professional settings as well as how to navigate the work environment as an LGBTQ.
